Kominek Gallery represents emerging and established photographers such as Bryan Schutmaat, Mark Mahaney, Mark Steinmetz, Daisuke Yokota or Greg Girard. For more than a decade Michael Kominek has also dedicated to editing and publishing photo books with artist like Alec Soth, Viviane Sassen, Rinko Kawauchi, Daisuke Yokota or Senta Simond. As well Kominek Gallery is operating an artist residency based in Berlin and East Poland dedicated to creating experimental photo book projects. The book is for us an art piece. It is the final form for a photographic work and the actual artwork of a photographer. The printed paper, layout, typography, the sequence, it is a combination of different arts that makes the final piece of art. Why a photo book? to tell a story in pictures, or is it more to express ourselves in another language and not be always strictly narrative? The book-making is an ancient process, which is still the strongest for us when it comes to tell a story with documentary photography. So we are always thrilled about a good photobook. At our publishing house the thematic focus is on documentary photography and geographically on Eastern Europe... but we are very open.
